Exact Purpose: The purpose of the argumentative speech is to convince readers that cigarettes should be banned in the United States.
Introduction
Attention Grabber: Smoking has adverse economic, environmental and social effects on smokers.
Explanation: In recent years, diseases associated with smoking of cigarettes have increased. Smoking causes illnesses such as heart attacks, chronic obstructive, lung cancer, vascular stenosis among others. Also, smokers spend a lot of money while purchasing cigarettes. Smoke also has adverse effects on the environment.
Audience Relation
The debate about the banning of cigarettes in the United States is critical. The number of youths engaging in smoking has increased. The topic will provide information to the policymakers on how to deal with smoking of cigarettes.
Establish Credibility: Most of my friends indulged in smoking cigarettes in the past. Some of them got admitted to the hospital while others ended up being poor. Such experience has motivated me to provide a speech about the banning of cigarettes.
Claim/Thesis statement- United States should ban smoking of cigarettes due to its negative impacts.
Preview Statement: Negative health effects, financial burden, and smoking at workplaces. II. Background Information: Banning smoking of cigarettes involves prohibiting people from smoking cigarettes.
III. First Main Point: Smoking cigarettes has harmful effects on the smoker’s health.

Pro/Point Example: Recent studies in the United States have attributed 500,000 deaths per year to smoking-related diseases. The studies have shown that smokers lose 13.2 and 14.5 years of life due to smoking and as a result, smokers die earlier (Jha and Richard 61).
Con/ Counterpoint Example: There are more harmful drugs in the United States that should be banned rather than cigarettes.
Pro/Point Example: Smoking cigarettes influence them to use other toxic drugs.
Signpost: Therefore, it is prevalent that smoking has adverse effects on users.
IV. Second main point: People smoke while at work.
Pro/Point Example: Smoking while at work reduces the productivity of the workers. Also, they spend most of their working hours while smoking. The working places have many people who are later affected by passive smoking
Con/ Counterpoint Example Banning smoking of cigarettes interferes with the personal lifestyle of the workers.
Pro/Point Example: The government has the responsibility of enhancing a healthy life for its citizens.
Signpost: Therefore, smoking should not be allowed in the working and public places because it results in harmful effects.
V. Third main point: Smokers spend a lot of money while purchasing cigarettes.
Pro/Point Example: Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), smoking of cigarettes has an economic burden to the United States. The nation spends a lot of money while catering to health costs (Binswanger et al. 4542).
Con/ Counterpoint Example: Banning of cigarettes will affect the economy of America. Trades such as the pubs and clubs will experience reduced income after banning of cigarettes.
Pro/Point Example: The government should prioritize on the health of the citizens rather than revenues.

Summary:
It is evident that smoking of cigarettes has adverse effects. It causes numerous diseases, smoking at workplaces and high spending.

Therefore, smoking of cigarettes should be banned in the United States due to its negative repercussions.

Thus, you should endeavor to discourage people from smoking cigarettes. Besides, those smoking cigars should stop and adopt healthy habits.
Memorable Closure: Unless smoking of cigarettes is banned, it will continue resulting in negative impacts on users, environment, and economy of the United States.
