Joint-by-Joint Approach
The idea of Joint by Joint approach originated out of a conversation between Grace Cook and Michael Boyle and later got out to the rest of the public through Michael Boyles article. The strategy explains the performance of a joint in a human body and its tendency to dysfunction. Furthermore, the approach provides a general idea of how the joints throughout the body interact and the ability to narrow down the malfunctions causing persistent pains and injury using the relationship between the functioning of various joints. The simplification of the process by Cook made it one of the possible training and medical approaches to the human joints meant to revolutionized joint and muscle treatments. According to Boyle (1), the Joint by Joint Approach, there is a correlation between different joints of the human body and how they function. In this case, their stability and mobility tend to affect the neighboring joints and muscles. The concept has, therefore, revolutionized how coaches carry out training as most of them moved away from the traditional movement based approach.
The Cook’s concept considers the body as a stack of joints with each joint having a defined function (Boyle 2). Furthermore, their cases of dysfunctions are predictable in the sense that they are affected by a neighboring joint. As a result, the approach of training or improving the performance that is the mobility and stability of a particular joint depends on the training applied on a consequent joint.

The increasing cause of injuries on the human body has been linked to the poor techniques used in treating joint dysfunctions. The Cooks techniques indicate that an issue at a particular joint usually leads to pain in another joint.
However, critics find the regional interdependence of the joints such that a case where joint shifts from its defined functions result to dysfunction down the chain an inaccurate conclusion since every joint in the human body has an exception regarding the tendency most of which are not minor outliers. Some of the significant discrepancies include the fact that the stability of the knees is dependent on the passive restraint structure of the ligaments. Furthermore, the knee’s mobility plays a significant role in the entire movement structure. Thus there are slim chances of there being sloppiness at the knees.
From the reading, I learn that the tendencies at some of the human joints can occur and result in dysfunction and pain. For those who read the articles with rigidity, they will not find the exceptions in the Cooks and Boyles article. However, those with an open mind and a little flexibility will realize the few inadequate explanations and relations of the behavior of the joints to the dysfunctions and pain arising from lack of mobility and stability of other joints.
