As a white male living Maine how would my life be different if I was a minority race?

If I were to be a Muslim woman living in Maine, I believe that my life would be different from how it is now. Muslims are a minority race in Maine, representing 10% of the total population in this northeastern most state in the U.S (Moore, 2014). Most Americans in the country would consider me as an outsider, hence getting suspicious of my motives and beliefs. Currently, American Muslims suffer racial injustice and inequality on all forms. I would feel as if America was not meant for us. Being a Muslim in America means that everyone tells you that the likelihoods of success are limited in the U.S. Being brought up in this hostile environment to their faith. This includes falling victims of police investigations, reporters asking irrelevant questions, and people believing that our veils promote extremism.
Trump’s negative attitude and policies against Muslims would also make other Americans living in Maine state view me as a terrorist and threat to their lives. As a woman, these experiences cause psychological, mental, and physical agony (Moore, 2014). Every Muslim is condemned to acts of terror. As other Muslims claim, I would also support their argument that Trump is unfriendly and mistaken for hating and despising our religion. It would be sad when every American perceived me as a group of terrorists and an ominous threat to the society. I would have to tolerate the unmistakable message to denounce terrorism and injustice and violence among the innocent Americans.

Muslims in America receive little respect. Even victims of losses get ignored and held accountable for violent and terrorism events we did not commit. I would have to put up with the world that hates me. Being a woman, I would be afraid of wearing my traditional Hijab, fear that our Mosque might be attacked, or fearful of the harsh law enforcers who would lock us up in police stations for weeks. I would feel scared of the increased scrutiny and discrimination at the airports, in the streets, or the constant surveillance concepts at the community gates (Moore, 2014).
As a Muslim in the United States, I would have to cope with mistrust from everyone. On a day terrorist attack the U.S., Americans would point fingers at me, blaming me for our hostility. It is sad hearing the people you live with say that you are a danger to their lives (Moore, 2014). Practicing our faith would not be safe in the United States every single day. Slogans such as “more Muslims equals more terrorism” are heart-breaking to ourselves and the next generations of the Islam community in the United States. Despite the lack of evidence on the relationship between increased terrorism and Muslim migration in the United States, most Americans still believe that everyone is related to the ISIS (Moore, 2014).
Despite this hardship, I would still practice my faith openly as a Muslim woman living in Maine. I would be proud to become an American, given the many opportunities I am likely to experience over time (Moore, 2014). I appreciate that America is my homeland, including having the freedom to express myself. I would participate in discussions and debates protecting and supporting my community. As a woman, I would share my experiences, fears, thoughts, and hopes with other societies and the new generation, as a way to embrace togetherness and diversity. Additionally, I would lead in eradicating stereotypes, outdated notions, and generalizations that discriminate the minority groups living in America (Moore, 2014).
