Social Networking Site is good in our Society
In the brief perspective, social media or social networking site could be referred to as a social tool for communication. From a broader perspective, social media refers to the collection of the Internet- based communication pathways dedicated to interaction, community-wide input, collaboration and content sharing. It, therefore, implies that social media differs a great deal from industrial and traditional media. The difference comes regarding reach, quality, usability, permanency and frequency. Social media conveys information from many sources to many receivers, unlike traditional media that conveys information from just one source to many receivers. The websites that are designed for microblogging, social networking, wikis, social curation and forums comprise the various types of social media. Some common examples of social media include Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Reddit, Pinterest among others. Social media has benefited the society through improving interaction, offering job opportunities and creating a friendly learning environment for the student. Therefore, I agree that social media has done a great job in the society.
From the Procon.org website, social networking site has impacted the society positively and negatively. For instance, the advantage of using social media in a society is that it has provided a better learning environment. The use of social media within the classroom is good and contributes to the positive and advantageous learning environment in which students’ concentration and participation are enormously achieved.

By including social media in the classroom, the educators achieve the imminent goals of enabling discussions, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity within the students. Social media presents a knowledgeable insight to the students and provides the best way to achieve their interests before the actual lesson implementation. It promotes high and low patterns of thinking techniques within or outside the classroom where students have higher chances of achieving individual and group collaborations enabling them complete their assignments by utilizing the social media sites each of them prefer making both parties, students and educators delighted with the obtained learning results.
Another advantage of the social networking site is that it has made interaction and communication to fast in the society. It has made it easier and possible for individuals to get access to news and interact with people. People get to share a lot of their experiences through such interactions in the social media. Latest news is posted through the social media networks and is easily accessible by many people. Social media has become an important part of the current human social life. People can now build lasting new relationships by keeping in touch with people all over the globe. The social media avails the latest news and furthermore makes people more interested in associating especially through video chats. Lastly, the advantage of social media is that it offers a cheap marketing platform for business entrepreneurs. Additionally, research from Australia also indicates employers are screening social network sites of their potential employees to get more information about them, off the office. Therefore, social media has benefited the society through improving interaction, offering job opportunities and creating a friendly learning environment for the student. That is why I support the statement.
Far from that, self-serving bias is a continuous behaviour where an individual attribute good events to their personality but bad attribute event to other people or outside factors. It is a self-esteem adjustment strategy for some people. On the other hand, expectation bias refers to a subsequent behaviour where an individual certify, believes and post data that are supporting their interests while discarding other data that criticise or downgrade them.
I choose these cognitive biases because people always portray these type biases within the social networking site. For instance, self-serving bias is when businesspeople or politician use the social media to discard their competitor’s products or profile respectively. In detail, sharing of information and data via the social media has been proven to a better way of fast communication of thoughts concerning political agenda, corporate business analysis, government participation or journalism. However this revelation of individual and information could be of danger politically as the political parties would bar a candidate from vying for a position given his controversial agenda or people’s views in the social networks. Additionally, if rumours are spread in the social media that a product has a harmful effect, people will resist from buying the product. Also, expectation bias is seen when people only post things that are interesting to them such as travelling, clubbing, best experience and fun time. However, this has the effect of impersonation because the true self is not portrayed in the personal social media profile.
After playing the “Believing Game, “my opinion still stays the same that social networking site has done a significant role in the society. The vision of globalisation has been achieved through social networking sites. In other words, social media has benefited the society through improving interaction, offering job opportunities and creating a friendly learning environment for the student. That is why I support this topic despite the disadvantages that social media can cause.
