The female author Maya Angelou’s recited her poem entitled “On the Pulse of Morning” during the first inauguration of Bill Clinton. She was among the first few poets to prosper in literature despite not being white. From her work the identity of hyphenated Americans is depicted as though it was not honored as that of Native Americans (“THE INAUGURATION; Maya Angelou: ‘On the Pulse of Morning'”). Maya preaches that each and every countryman has a role to play in the nation and no one should be mistreated.
After reading document 14 it is true saying that according to the then President-Elect Hussein Barrack Obama Americanism is how a nation takes a political stand and elects leaders on the ground of what they promise to deliver. Obama views Americanism as the togetherness of people regardless of race or religion. In Obama’s speech, he mentioned his opponents and commended them for the hard work they had put on the nation’s welfare (“Barack Obama’s Victory Speech? Full Text”). In addition, he opened hands for them in the new government and vowed to work with them. Unison of leaders despite having different political stands as exhibited by President Obama was a practical implication of Americanism.
Before Barrack assumed the presidential seat, people questioned what defined an American citizen. Racism seemed to be deeply incorporated in the brain of Americans as some political positions were regarded to be for the Whites only. But with Obama winning the 2008 elections it resolved the matter.

He was voted in not only by people of color but also by Whites, which depicted that even people of color born in America were citizens of the nation and are entitled to be treated so. America has progressed in being inclusive as its constitution now acknowledges gays marriage which was not the case some decades ago.
