If I were tasked with creating a security operation within a large firm, such as the Boeing Company, I would adopt a hybrid security force. A hybrid security force is a mix of contract security organization and proprietary security organization (Fischer, Halibozek & Walters, 2012). A contract security organization involves a company outsourcing a security agency to meet their security needs (Fischer, Halibozek & Walters, 2012). A proprietary security organization entails a company developing an in-house security team to meet the company’s security needs (Fischer, Halibozek & Walters, 2012). A contract security organization provides a company with several benefits and drawbacks. Relieving a company administrative tasks and availing qualified personnel to protect the property of a firm and its employees are some of the benefits of contract security organization.

Once a company contracts a security agency to take care of their security needs, the security agency hires, maintains payroll records, and fires security guards. This relieves the contracting company a lot of money and time that the company could use to focus on its core business (Van Steden, Van Der Wal & Lasthuizen, 2015). Further, a company may lack the necessary knowledge and skills to train competent security professionals. In contrast, security agencies will have the requisite knowledge and skills to ensure that its employees are well trained to meet the security needs of clients. A major drawback of a company contracting a security organization to meet their security needs is that the contracting company lacks control over the security personnel (Van Steden, Van Der Wal & Lasthuizen, 2015).

Thus, the company may suffer immensely where the security personnel attached to it are not a good cultural fit.

The major advantage of a proprietary security organization is that the security personnel not only tend to be loyal to the company, but also the company has control over the security personnel. The security personnel is likely to feel that the company has invested significant resources in their training and development and thus they are likely to be loyal to the company. The company has control over the security personnel since the security personnel is on the company’s payroll (Van Steden, Van Der Wal & Lasthuizen, 2015). A major drawback of a proprietary security organization is that the company has to handle payroll administrative tasks which can be expensive and time-consuming. A major company, such as the Boeing Company has enormous security needs which would be too complicated to be handled by a proprietary security organization and too delicate to be handled solely by contract security organization (Van Steden, Van Der Wal & Lasthuizen, 2015).

While a proprietary security organization would be handy to protect the physical properties of the company and staff at Boeing Company, the Company also has delicate information that is better handled by a contract security organization. The Boeing Company holds vast credit card information and vast information from its robust research and development efforts that would significantly compromise the Company should that information leak into the wrong hands (Purpura, 2011). A specialized contract security organization will thus have the necessary training to not only ensure that the existing information is secure from malware but also craft systems and processes in anticipation of future threats to the Company’s information. A hybrid security organization also fits the Boeing Company that it gives the management sufficient control over the security team while not having to train an in-house security team (Purpura, 2011). The Company operates in a delicate industry, and thus the Company has to move swift and make changes in case their security is at a risk of being compromised which can only be achieved through hybrid security organization.
