Chemistry considered as a pillar of medicine

In the text "Chemistry and Health – Synergy and Conflicts" it is exposed how, from its origins, medicine and chemistry have gone from complementing and being closely related to existing in complete discrepancy being both fundamental sciences. For example, both date from the beginning of the culture of man, that is, when he discovered the four elements of nature and empirically began to understand his properties and the benefits that could be provided. From this point, medicine and chemistry each forged their path throughout history and during this journey they had some convergences and divergences that resulted in the science we currently know. However, there were historical moments where these sciences were flatly opposed. One of these moments was during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when it was established that chemistry should be studied in a reductionist way. Static studies were carried out that did not take into account the context of what was investigated but studied isolated phenomena. This generated a theoretical limitation between medicine and chemistry thus separating these two sciences at the moment. To finish the writing, the author determines that these two sciences were always complemented in one way or another and emphasizes that if it was not for medicine, chemistry would never have been considered a science. It is there where I differ;Medicine depends on chemistry to be able to study, but the study of chemistry does not depend on medicine.

Is chemistry a pillar of medicine and not the opposite?

First of all, I approach this question from the most basic aspect of medicine that exists from ancient times until today. The objective of medicine was always to cure and prevent the disease and this was first achieved with the use of medicinal plants, then with the first chemicals identified, then with the knowledge of the alchemists and finally it was known to what is known as pharmacist. Without this development of healing medicines, the health territory would never have had the growth that people had offering a better quality of life because treatments would be rather reduced. Second, it was determined that chemistry is the foundation of clinical knowledge, because without physicochemistry, biochemistry and other branches that study the biological processes of the human would not have understood concepts about disease and infection, for example. Thus it is demonstrated that, according to Soraya Layton "… each chemical discovery had repercussions on medicine and contributed to its progress …".

I consider that chemistry is one of the pillars of medicine for everything mentioned above;Historically, thanks to the need to develop medical knowledge, the most thorough studies of chemistry and its implications with the clinical sector have been enhanced, but taking into account the scientific findings throughout history, it can be affirmed that withoutChemistry Medicine would not be the same. To chemistry we owe the explanation of the functioning of our bodies and minds, the mere fact of being able to be here and being writing this.
