Scholarship Essay
Since commencing the education system, I have always possessed a diverse cluster of academic interests. However, after much reflection, I decided to dedicate my intellectual life in the Life Sciences. I chose to major in Health & Disease and Nutritional Sciences and minor in Physiology. I chose those fields because I enjoy helping the community around me particularly by solving matters related to health. I also wanted an arduous major that would effectively hone my cognitive and analytical skills for whatever position that I may hold in the future. This summer, I am looking forward to carrying out a research work under the supervision of a biochemistry professor at the University of Toronto. More so, I will be volunteering at a clinic under close supervision of an experienced respirologist. Those activities will provide me with a vast chance to better comprehend all the theoretical concepts that I have been learning by putting them into practice hence improving my understanding in the field of Life Sciences. At the moment, my cumulative GPA is at 3.89 but I am looking for every opportunity that would ultimately help in improving my academic outcome, including acquiring financial aid to meet the tuition fee charges.
The programs that I am undertaking in the field of health sciences are designed to offer me with immense knowledge regarding practical aspects of health and nutrition. Understanding those aspects will be very crucial in solving most nutritional problems that otherwise cause havoc in the society through lifestyle ailments like as heart diseases, cancer and diabetes.

More so, the programs that I have enrolled in will offer me with an in-depth comprehension of dietary risk factors for diseases, the nutritional essence of functional diet, and the nutritional aspects of the different food products in the market. As such, once I have completed my studies, I will be in a position to critically assess and solve issues in food science and technology that would otherwise cause unexpected impact on the population.
Once I have graduated from my studies, I plan to contribute to the society in an incredible way as a family physician. I will be in the frontline of the nation’s healthcare system, directly assisting individuals leading lifestyles that ultimately cause them to face health inequity. I will indiscriminately work with displaced persons or refugees, people living in abject poverty, and individuals experiencing developmental delays. Moreover, I understand that my role will not end just after the patient-doctor encounter, but am looking forward to also influence changes at the policy level. In the recent past, family physician advocacy has helped in addressing problems faced by families living in impoverished conditions in our communities. Similarly, I am looking forward to contributing to the field of Life Sciences by advocating for policies that support affordable and quality medication to all members of the community regardless of societal status. Moreover, I plan to enthusiastically utilize my research skills in helping the community as a family physician. Markedly, I plan to dedicate quality time to studying about Sjogren, an immunodeficiency disease that my mother is currently suffering from. Sjogren’s syndrome first affects the moisture-secreting glands in the mouth and eyes as well as the mucous membranes resulting in extremely dry mouth and eyes (Bloch et al., 318). It mainly affects women above the age of forty and the treatment so far only aims at relieving the symptoms rather than entirely curing the disease.
