Pre-departure training is the process through which insightful and relevant information is impacted to the professionals regarding a particular nation for international assignments. Some of the information included in the pre-departure include: raising cross-cultural awareness.
The employees should be trained on how a particular culture responds and reacts to a given stimuli. A worker departing without prior knowledge of the environment or the surrounding may experience immense cultural shock which might even frustrate them. Training them before the actual deployment exposes the cultural shifts that an employee should expect which reduces the levels of anxiety expected from unfamiliar surroundings. The cross-cultural variations while addressed before the actual placement is an important factor in the reduction of the complexities expected from cultures and ethics abroad.
Another aspect of training is the language instruction more so for the basic words while relocating to an abroad country. Chinese language is quite different from the English language and for an employee departing for an international assignment, it is paramount for them to have some basic understanding of the language should they meet a conservative individual who intends to use a local language. Some words in Chinese might not have direct translations to English yet their understanding is vital in decision making.

Pre-departure training should also take the form of briefing the expats about the country and the logistical issues in case they need the data later. The country briefing should take the form of just the general country data about the hosting nation such as their hospitability, competitiveness, industrial-level, and who to contact when the expats are in trouble.
