Personal Responsibility Reflection EssayIntroduction
In this course, I made up my mind to focus my efforts on choices that would make me get the most out of my English class. I developed a list of activities I wanted to engage in, new practices I wanted to adopt as well as some of the activities I wanted to shed off so that I could reap the most out of this subject. Some of the key points on the list were procrastination, attending class regularly and on time, taking part in class discussions, preparing for class and asking for help when I needed it. The main objective was to engage in activities that would foster my academic success in this course. This paper seeks to point at the choices and practices that enhanced my success in this course.
Procrastination is the postponing of activities and maybe decisions as well as a regular practice (Ji Won, 66). The first decision I decided to make was to deal with my procrastination habit. Normally, I postponed my assignments and other course exercises and ended up not doing them. Procrastination had been a great setback in my academic life. Therefore, I decided that throughout the course, I will complete my assignments and exercises immediately I think of doing them and at the time when I planned to do them.
I also decided that I will attend the English class regularly. I realized that doing to class can help me far more than just giving me credit or attendance. I realized that attending class facilitate my understanding in many ways.

I realized that lectures supplemented the reading assignments. The decision to attend class regularly was fueled by the fact that I noticed that attending class could dramatically cut my study time later on. Additionally, I realized that there are some important concepts that are emphasized in class hence providing a better understanding of what is important and what is should give much of my effort (McDonald, 36).
Preparing for class is another decision I made that greatly enhanced my success in my English class. Previously, I never thought that preparing for the class could be of any significance to me. In fact, I thought that only teachers and professors should prepare for class. However, I realized that failing to prepare for class placed me at a disadvantage. I could not take part in class discussions because I did not go through the assigned readings and did not read ahead of the next class. Preparing for class, therefore, made me feel part of the class in every lesson (Newstreet, 10).
Another important choice I made was to take part in class discussions as well as in class activities. I realized that this made me quickly get feedback on my progress from the professor as well as other students. Group discussions also enhanced my understanding of the course since we share and compare ideas (Newstreet, 12).
In conclusion, I realized that the set of choices I made greatly helped me in my English class. Previously, these activities never meant much but I realized that they are the recipe for success. Doing away with procrastination has helped me be prompt with my assignments. On the other hand, regular class attendance and participation in group discussions have enhanced my understanding of the course concepts. Preparing classes too has also helped me with cutting my study time just as regular attendance of class.
