Climate of Doubt
Question 1
In either focusing or ignoring an event, the media promotes or refutes pseudoscience. The hype that is engaged in the press presentation contributes significantly to how the information is achieved. One example is when the UN convention for global warming takes place in California simultaneously with the skeptics meeting. Because of the hype towards the global warming conference, the media promotes awareness towards global warming and human contribution towards it. On the other hand, after the discovery of emails perceived belongs to climate scientists who were manipulating data, media presents this as definitive evidence that global warming is a hoax. This way, it refutes the pseudoscience.
Question 2.
Since pseudo-science is not yet proven, the best way to do so is to demolish scientific evidence that supports it. One way in which the skeptics achieve this is by taking analyzing ten years data to show a decreasing temperature trend while in the real sense; temperature for these ten years is greater than the data for the previous ten years.
Question 3
The motivations behind denial maybe pure rebellion such as Singer’s position who seems to reject any progressive facts or profits by investors in multimillion industries tied to such harmful industries. The key players are climate scientists and skeptics. Both groups consist of professionals with high specialization in climate matters although the latter admits people with lesser qualifications.

Although the bill was not passed, the new studies required the inclusion of both views which means that the skeptics had to be included in the study of the coastline. This means they had advanced in making their opinion a part of a balanced conversation.
Question 4
The motivation behind climate denial is profit. If the general public agrees that a particular resource causes tremendous harm, it will cease using it and contribute to alternative methods of satisfying needs. This will cause losses to industries depending on such methods to make money. The primary industries in this cartel are fossil fuel industries and wealthy investors linked to the industry. In modern times, it involves politicians, lawyers, advocate groups, economists and litigators who are excellent in putting a message out. These interested industries engage think tanks and front groups such as controversial scientists e.g. Singer to provide contradicting reports. They also engage the media and public relations specialists.
Question 5
The web of denial is a group of associated individuals who join in denying some facts for the sake of mutual benefit. In the case of global warming, this web of denial is supported by fossil fuel and all the related organizations. Since the association of their products with global warming could lead to loss of income, these companies come together and engage the help of other parties such as public relations to convince the public falsely that the facts are wrong. A web of denial, therefore, rejects facts that it knows to be real.
The US Senators are taking action against such a web of denial to safeguard the interest of the people through environmental sustainability. Their action is based on the fact that such measures are selfish and aimed to benefit a small segment of the population at the expense of the majority. They, therefore, want these companies to be obligated to acknowledge the harmful effects of their products. Additionally, they should contribute and participate in research towards methods of mitigating negative consequences of their products and establishment of better sources of energy.
