College Writing Techniques

Undoubtedly, there are convincing reasons to support the claim that my writing skills in the course of the semester significantly improved. However, I cannot hesitate to note that I encountered some difficulties while analyzing the assigned work. Firstly, English is not my first language, and I could not excellently write as I am used to writing in my first language. Writing in my second language signifies that the work contained some errors especially in the choice of words, the use of vocabulary and the coherence of the ideas. Secondly, the assignments I was given revolved around politics of which I have little knowledge on the subject. Consequently, my essays might have lacked deeper details in the political arena. Thirdly, I faced a problem while looking for the sources which I could use to support the claims in my work. Despite the problems I encountered, I put forward the claim that all that I learned in the semester on essay writing were of great assistance to my writing techniques. The skills I attained in the semester include reading skills, problems and themes analysis.Moreover, I got acquainted with literary and artistic stylistic devices. The skills acquired helped me to analyze the three assignments I was given.
My first essay was entitled “Welfare: a Curse or a Blessing for the Nation?”The essay revolved around capitalism and Democratic socialism in USA and Denmark. I made the introduction of the essay captivating by mentioning the presidential debate of October 13, 2015, which featured Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

I employed thematic, stylistic devices to expound the underlying thesis that Democratic Socialism can only work in small countries like Denmark but not in large states such as the USA. Notably, I drew parallel and contrasting examples from Denmark and USA using the skills of analyzing the essays. One of the supportive argument in the essay was based on the fact that application of welfare strategies in Denmark would work well in the country. Similar, it was noted that the taxation would result from welfare strategies can create a balanced welfare in the USA. The essay ended having explained the reasons why some strategies in Denmark might not work in the USA. Most importantly, I was able to use in-text citations in the essay.
The second essay which I wrote was about Clinton comparing herself with Robin Hood.I vividly described the policies raised by Clinton that made her compare herself to Robin Hood.In the same note; I employed the literary skills learned in the semester to bring into light the rebuttal by the Donald Trump. Clinton, for instance, proposed that the life standards would be improved by raising taxes mainly on Wall Street but Donald Trump refuted the claim by stipulating that raising the taxes will only result in losing of jobs by most of the citizens.To authenticate the claims from both parties I applied the techniques of gathering and evaluating primary and secondary sources of information.The techniques involved a lot synthesis of the information.
My third essay to handle in the semester was entitled “Donald Trump And ‘The Russian Puppet ‘Claims” .The principal aim of the essay was to unravel the facts the behind the claim that Donald Trump was being endorsed by the Russia government, especially with President Putin.I used the skills of research and analysis to come with the authenticity of the claims. It is clear that the topic was well analyzed while drawing from the example where Donald Trump claimed in an interview that the relationship with Putin was based on economic issues aimed at building America. I was able to put citations in the essay and formatted it with APA style.
In conclusion, throughout the semester I developed several writing skills which include critical analysis, organizing the essay, formatting, inserting citations and coming up with a thesis statement.
