Should the U.S. celebrate Columbus Day?
Introduction
Columbus Day is one of the holidays in the US in the remembrance of the landing of Columbus Christopher in America in the late 1940s. The day occurred on the 8th of October, 2018. However, the day was not officially celebrated in several states and cities since the 18th century until it turned into a federal holiday in 1937 (Proulx, 2017). This day is honored for the achievements of Columbus and American-Italian heritage. However, this day has created a lot of controversies among the Americans other suggesting that the day should not be celebrated.
Thesis: Columbus Day should not be celebrated in the US since it was involved in committing inhuman acts against the natives Americans.
The U. S should stop and abolish the celebrations of the Columbus Day due to his inhuman acts inflicted against the native Americans by the time he shifted from Europe such as enslaving them, overworking of the natives to death and stealing their own land. These barbaric acts left had hysteria and memories to most of the Americans whenever read about him in the history books. He did not do anything remarkable apart from overworking the poor up to death (Judy, 2018). Thus, the celebration of his day is looked at as an insult to some of the Americans due to the atrocities he committed.
More so, due to the increase in the populations of the Native Americans in the urban cities and areas throughout the country, there is has been the celebrations of days of the indigenous people.

Furthermore, with the growth of the populations characterized by diversity, the celebrations of the Columbus Day is seen as the day for the only the whites which sidelines others indirectly. Therefore, Columbus Day should not be celebrated in the country.
Conclusion
Due to the number of atrocities committed by the Columbus, most of the Americans are still remembering and mourning their people. In this case, celebrating Columbus Day acts as an insult to several Americans.
