Company safety and risk Director.
Subject: Recommendations for continued safety as per the building safety survey conducted
There is the need to institute better safety measures owing to the classification of the liquids as class IB and class IC. The liquids are flammable with class IB having a flash point at below 73°F (22.8°C) with a boiling point standing at 100°F (37.8°C) while class IC having a flash point of 73°F (22.8°C) with a resulting boiling point at 100°F (37.8°C) respectively with no centralized storage facilities for the ice cream products.
I have had a look at the safety system and came up with some recommendations where the following measures must be adopted to ensure the safety of the flavoring products due to its flammability. By NFPA 30, the management needs to redesign and redefine the extent to which the prevention of fire and its control through the evaluation of clearly established sound fire protection mechanisms and its principles by application of the following methods,
– Thorough analysis of the factories fire and any form of explosion in its operations
– Analysis of the company’s applicability requirements required when handling liquids, its transfer, and usage.
– The emergency services available and how quickly they can respond in times of emergencies
– The local conditions should be analyzed to determine the building’s exposure to floods or earthquakes.
The building should be redesigned and fitted with right fire control systems. The system should be carefully maintained about the standards set forth by the NFPA13 that include the standards for CO2 Extinguishers and the reinstallation of the existing Sprinkler systems.

Wait! Company safety and risk Director paper is just an example!

I am also recommending that the building should have a clear system and procedure for alarm detection. This includes frequent monitoring of the highly flammable areas through observational and monitoring equipment.
I am recommending that the management takes measures to fit the building with suppression systems in the event of the likelihood of fire and during fire protection with regards to the NFPA standards. This includes installation of hydrants that are fitted or not fitted with monitor nozzles but about NFPA 24 that gives requirements for Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances. The company has violated this as the building has not fitted these systems as per NFPA 24.
Moreover, the management should establish a reliable fire control agents in the right quantity and pressure that can meet the demands of the ice cream production method hazards regarding its processing operations, its storage and its level of exposure.
The management should develop an emergency planning and mode of training in the building in case of fire. The planning should be done basing on the equipment’s that are available and the number of personnel.
The management should institute better methods of inspection and maintenance by NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. The standards include the disposal of combustible material, leakage and spillage control and the establishment of Aisle for the movement of personnel. The company has violated NFPA standard since the systems put in place are not up to standard hence the poor inspection and maintenance with disregard to the set standards.
Since the building is mixed and undetached, the management should adhere here to the recommended maximum storage level of 5ft. It is also recommended that the management establishes and enforce limited quantities of combustible products storage in the liquid storage areas.
It is also recommended that a redesign and reinstallation of the sprinkler system be done to ensure that only the permitted areas can be omitted for adequate safety and control of the hazards.
The building should be stated as an occupancy Hazard Group 2 to ensure that the necessary safety measures are put in place and their level of preparedness.
Lastly, the management needs to ensure that the maximum floor space in the building floors protected by the sprinkler system riser is 52,000 ft2 (4830 m2). The building maximum height is more than this, at 200,000 ft2 hence the violation of the stated height.
