In the modern competitive marketplace, companies are turning to strategies related to mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring to thrive. Irrespective of their inevitability in promoting the sustainability of businesses, these strategies raise substantial concerns associated with the morale, motivation, retention, and productivity of employees. Building a resilient, agile, and flexible workforce after the establishment of a merger is essential to the formation of a company that can respond to the changing demand of the complex business environment. Mergers usually involve the reorganization and integration of diverse cultures and leadership styles. These changes elicit not only tension but also security and suspicion among employees. Implementation of a reward program that recognizes the additional efforts of employees will address the issue of low morale, increase motivation, and productivity. Regardless of their imperativeness, these changes affect the morale, productivity, engagement, and retention of employees.
When two companies work together as a single business entity, they increase their chances of success through additional skills and improved business intelligence. Access to funds and other valuable assets that promote business operations also becomes more natural. Importantly, merging firms expand their market share and access a more extensive client base when compared rivals that prefer to work independently.
It is essential for integrating entities to address issues associated with restructuring and leadership changes. The reorganization that occurs when two companies merge often elicits feelings of tension, suspicion, and insecurity (De Jong et al., 2016). Adopting a reward and recognition program that appreciates the extra efforts of employees will help address the problem of low morale (Sarala, Vaara, & Junni, 2017). Inexpensive strategies such as congratulatory personal notes and traveling trophies will enhance their commitment, motivation, and morale toward organization mission and vision.
A reward and recognition program will increase the productivity of employees as well as encouraging innovation and creativity. Also, the levels of job satisfaction will be high as the company will be able to demonstrate its appreciation of employee efforts. With this strategy, employees will be more fulfilled, and the company will benefit from improved turnover rates.
