A comparison Between the Personalities of Jane Bennet and Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”
Introduction
Written by Jane Austen “Pride and Prejudice” stars Jane Bennet and Elizabeth Bennet as the main characters. The two are sisters in the tentative ages of 22 (Austen, 1). Elizabeth is featured as the heroine of the story as entire story brings the reader to a tale of the romances and their resultant marriages. The personalities of the two girls differ in terms of the criteria used to choose their partners, perspective view of life and the manner in which they handle relationships. Nevertheless, the two also share personalities regarding kindness, adoration, and love. It is, therefore, imperative to provide a detailed analysis of the contrast and comparison between the two sisters.
Similarities and Differences
Jane and Elizabeth have a comprehensive understanding of how the world operates despite the fact that they are still young. They have comparable personalities. They are loving, kind, and adoring(Austen, 10). At one point the two girls whispered to each other “We are all fools in love” Nevertheless, the two children conform to the adoration bestowed by their loving parents. This assertion is evident in this quote, “Her father, contented with laughing at them, would never exert himself to restrain the wild giddiness of his youngest daughters; and her mother, with manners so far from right herself, was entirely insensible of the evil”.

Jane and Elizabeth face the same challenges as their mother wants them to be married to one of the richest bachelors in their village as a strategy towards rescuing them from poverty.
Elizabeth though young looks smarter than Jane. She has the best criteria of choosing a partner. She analyses a person before deciding whether she could love and even get married to him. Elizabeth is too reluctant to accept the generous guy due to his pride. Conversely, Jane is materialistic and decides to heed the call of the mother. Elizabeth is not interested in marrying a man who is proud just because she wants money. However, Jane who is innocent and a naïve girl bestows her trust on people quickly provided that they were rich (Austen, 4).
Elizabeth appears to be the strongest individual in handling the pressure of personal relationships. Elizabeth takes the time to analyse Darcy, her husband as opposed to Jane who falls in love with Bingley due to his richness. Moreover, Jane admires any man in the village with a devotion of being rich to extend that they cross with Bingley due to a friend. However, the two end up marrying (Austen, 12). Elizabeth would be the most successful sister in the modern world due to her outstanding character trait. She does not associate love with material things as many girls of the modern era do, and this helps her to sustain her relationship with Darcy, her partner. At one point Jane advised Elizabeth, “An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day you must be a stranger to one of your parents. Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you do” (Austen, 18).
