Environment and Means of Living
There are several ways in which the environment influences the way people make a living. First people usually adapt to what is available to them. For those that are living in the forests and the environments that are not developed, they are likely to practice foraging. This is the process of finding and gathering wild fruits and other foods for free. Because they live in the environment that lacks the market where other things can be sold, their only way of making a living is to search for the wild food that is available (Kuijs et al 41). This is also true for the pastoralists. Those that are living in the fertile environments and the regions that are underdeveloped are likely to practice pastoralism which is based on grazing cattle. The means of living in such an environment is through getting the food from the animals that they are rearing. For those that are living in the developed environments, their means of living depends on their ability to get to the market and find the available jobs which they can survive on.
There are several ways in which the subsistence strategies determine an ecosystem. Subsistence agriculture is a farming system where the farmers participate in growing crops so that they can have enough food that they can use in feeding their families. This type of practice determines the way an ecosystem is running. This is mainly the requirements from the locals that have little trade. These environments do not have the potential of conducting trade.

In a typical subsistence environment, the farmers grow crops and also keep animals that the family can sell and keep so that they can get food, shelter, and clothing. The subsistent peasant farmers only grow and keep what they can use for survival without having to make extra income for other activities. Most of these people are found in the regions or environments of underdeveloped and developing countries. These strategies change an ecosystem.
