One of the new things I have learned during this course is the relationship between courts and the health care profession and to be more specific with the nursing profession. Courts play a very critical role in the development of new laws through cases. Courts make decisions about cases which can be applied as laws and policies. The court system of the United States prides itself on developing achievements that include the protection of people’s individual rights from oppression from government and also protect the country’s constitution from the government. However, the powers of the courts are limited by the rulings of the cases they decide (The Courts, 2018).
Courts have been extensively involved in the influence of health policies in different areas that include Medicaid payment rates and their adequacy, evaluation of issues of insurance covers, matters of taxation and many other aspects of the healthcare scene. These are examples of ways through which courts affect and influence policies developed for the healthcare profession. Courts are considered as independent bodies that help keep checks and balances in the society through the ruling of cases. However, courts mainly focus on the individuals and groups involved in the cases and thus are not concerned with the overall issues and implications such cases have on the health care system (Anderson, 1992).
More and more healthcare issues are finding themselves in courts for solutions.

Wait! Courts and Nursing paper is just an example!

However, there need to be better systems in place to ensure that courts effectively resolve healthcare policy issues. Litigation processes of courts are insufficient to handle policy issues associated with healthcare and thus necessitates the development of alternative methods of strengthening the decision making processes that courts deal with (‘I’ve done nothing wrong,’ 2017).
