Gottfredson and Hirschi proposed the self-control theory in 1990 with the aim of explaining the cause of most crimes in society. According to the low self-control theory, most crimes are committed since they are simple to commit and do not require long-term planning. Also, most crimes have few long-term benefits (Wright, 2009). This is true in cases of the crime of rape. Most crimes of rape are spontaneous and normally take less than an hour to commit. Also, the offender does not acquire any long-term benefits after committing rape. Once the crime has been committed, the offender cannot enjoy other benefits from the crime.
According to the self-control theory by Gottfredson and Hirschi, the lack of self-control is the main cause of most crimes. The theory explains that people with low self-control are short-sighted, impulsive, adventurous, risk-taking and insensitive to how other people feel (Wright, 2009). This explains why they are able to commit crimes such as rape which is spontaneous with neither long-term planning nor long-term gains. According to one study, whose aim was to determine the behavioral characteristics of rapists, it showed that most rapists tend to be aggressive and indirectly hostile (Sharma, 2017). Since they suffer from low self-control, they want to show authority in aggressive means hence highly likely to commit the crime of rape.
The main cause of low self-control has been attributed to poor parenting (Sharma, 2017).

Wait! CRIME OF RAPE paper is just an example!

Children who have been brought up in homes plagued by physical and mental violence are more likely to commit the crime of rape due to lack of self-control. Due to the suppressed hatred and anger, together with the self-perception that one is unworthy of love, leads to low self-control (Sharma, 2017). These individuals with troubled childhoods tend to want to force themselves upon others to feel loved. This explains the crime of rape.
