To help ELL students learn better in the classroom, it is essential to design the lesson plans in a way that incorporate students’ native languages too. Unfortunately, there are not sufficient books and reading material which is conducive for bilingual education CITATION Dig17 l 1033 (Digest and Krashen). Therefore, I will address this weakness and prepare support material for my students. In my opinion, bilingual education is not merely giving more importance to the native language but use it to enhance comprehension and figurative language. For instance, if I need to teach a new word to the students, they will be told that in their native language, so that they better understand the meaning of the word.
As far as the instructional approaches are concerned, I will encourage my students to work in groups. They will be based on bilingual groups, but I will try to make groups in a way that each group has at least two members of the same lingual background. It will support diversity, and same language students will assist each other better at the same time. Furthermore, role play is also an important strategy to teach the English language in a fun way. It will help them in understanding the contextual meaning of different words.
Being a teacher, it will be my responsibility to make the students feel comfortable in using English in their class activities. For this reason, I will be supportive and encourage the pupils, and tell them the importance of being supportive to each other being peers.
