Object-oriented Database Technology
The retail industry expressed in simple terms deals with the trade that provides finished products to consumers in exchange for money. These products are mostly sold in single units as opposed to bulk, and the business is done in shops, kiosks or even through the internet and mail. Database technologies are selected according to the purpose they intend to serve, and the modalities that are surrounding the data needed to be stored or accessed (“What is a Database?”). Database management Systems (DBMS) is a software that can be used to create and even manage databases for easy management and retrieval (“What is Database Management System (DBMS)? – Definition from WhatIs.com”).
The retail industry would best use the object-oriented database model. As opposed to relational databases that are table oriented, these set up data in the form of objects. Object-oriented databases use soft wares and can also incorporate tables in its structure. Considering the individuality of units in the retail industry, a proper system of the product’s chain needs to be set up, running all the way from the manufacturers, suppliers, intermediaries, all the way to the consumers.
The object-oriented technology uses a multimedia database system that allows for other media such as images to be put together with data. Merchandise can be easily identified by the click of a button due to this efficiency feature. The hypertext database feature of this technology also allows for disparities of objects to be put on record and showing the links between one another (“Different Types of Database | Different Types of Database”).

Wait! Describe one database technology paper is just an example!

In the retail industry, object-oriented database technology can be used to put up organized records showing attributes of an object and give its sales report. The product identities could show their number, code, their date of receipt, their vendor as well as the cost of buying the product. On another side, the database could help show the product name, its date of sale, the price and even the product code (“3 – Databases – Linked Tables and Keys”). Such a proper system is used in supermarkets and malls as well as small-scale retail stores.
