Fictional Character’s Personality Analysis
Step 1: Fictional Character’s Traits Using McCrae and Costa’s 5 Factor Trait Theory
My Fictional character is Hannah Baker from the show “13 Reasons Why”. Based on McCrae and Costa’s 5 Factor Trait Theory, Hannah Baker can be described as high on extraversion, high on openness to experience, low on neuroticism, high on agreeableness, and high on conscientiousness (Feist, Feist, and Roberts 383). Throughout the show, Baker is painted as a character who is jovial, affectionate, and talkative. She is also brought out as an individual who likes testing new experiences but remains ambitious, organized, self-disciplined, and hardworking. She also is a soft-hearted, friendly character who is not only honest with herself but also with those around her. For example, when Baker says that aware of what other people are thinking about her, “Baker is a slut” (Asher 23), she confirms not only her courage but also her honesty.
Step 2:  How Each of the 5 Factor Trait’s Developed or Could be Explained.
Extraversion. Buss’s evolution theory of personality trait can describe Baker as high on surgency or dominance. Baker is friendly, engaging and lively within the social circles. Regardless, she would sometimes feel alienated, misunderstood and lonely, and this differentiates her from most of those with whom she interacts in the show.
Neuroticism. Hannah Baker has a dispositional trait of emotional stability. She remains vigilant and sensitive to negative outcomes of her social life, and wades off anxiety by either remaining true to herself or completely avoiding situations that may hurt her emotions.

Openness to experience. Baker is flexible and open to fresh experiences. For instance, she decides to join the poetry group to explore new ideas, connections, and intellect.
Agreeableness. As an agreeable character, Hannah Baker pays attention to the feelings of her colleagues, enjoys harmonious interpersonal connections, and values coalition partnerships. She also fails to maximize selfish advantage on those humiliates or looks down upon her.Conscientiousness. Hannah Baker is one character who is always committed to her work. She is reliable, careful and detail-focused, signaling her ability to be entrusted with tasks and responsibilities.
