Theme 1:
Discuss the structure of the United States’ HC system. Is it a sector or an industry? Why or why not? What level is HC regulated at? Federal or State? Why?
The United States health care system is one of the most complex and largest in the whole world with the total annual spending of over $2 trillion (American Institute for Contemporary German Studies, 2012). Its structure involves the system that is more privatized than the health care systems in other continents such as Europe. More of the US residents are covered under private insurers as compared to those under the public insures. However, some proportion of the US population entirely lacks health insurance. The overall provider of the US healthcare is the private sector. Despite the decentralization in the delivery of the health care services, most of the providers still fall under the private sector with minimal presence of the federal government.
In terms of regulations in the sector, the federal government is on the top setting the rules and regulations that govern the entire health care system. Although, many entities have been currently been set up to increase the control in the sector (American Institute for Contemporary German Studies, 2012). More so, at the state level, the local and local governments, medical boards, state commission for insurance and health departments help in supporting and implementing the federal state regulations.

Therefore, the US health care system is a sector that is majorly regulated at the State level due to the decentralization in the system.

Discuss what questions you need to ask yourself to determine the stakeholders for your assignment. Make sure to list specific stakeholder characteristics that will determine your choices.
There are several stakeholders in the US healthcare system such as the citizens, medical providers such as the federal and state governments and the private sector. In this case, most of the questions target the citizens who need the healthcare service more especially the medical insurance cover. Are the majority of the US citizens covered by health insurance? Most of the citizens especially the poor due high costs of the insurance packages, lack insurance covers. This is putting their health at risk due to the reluctance of the federal government.
