Anthemic Allure of “Dixie”
The program I listened to, was focused on the song ‘Dixie.’ It is a song, that was played by the Confederates and was regarded as the Confederate anthem. The reason behind this was that there were very few songs at the time. Dixie, as it turns out, was a song that draws its origins from the North and is a song that talks about missing the South. It caused widespread division between those who sang it and those who were keen on the lyrics. The song was full of racist slurs and was composed during the era of slave trade where African-Americans were actively discriminated against (Qureshi 2018). Despite all the controversy behind the song, several renditions have been done. One of them is by an African-America songstress, Rene-Marie. She claimed the song as her own and refused to dislike it just because the racist confederates had misused the song. Ultimately the song has met a lot of opposition because of how divisive it is. However, it remains in the hearts of the people of the South no matter how much they try to suppress it.
I learned that Dixie was initially sung as a harmless and innocent song that was not intended to cause any division. It is the people who spread it that were responsible for its misuse and not the singer. Both sides were well represented without any form of bias whatsoever. The presenter discussed both the negative parts of the song as well as the love the people have for the song in their hearts.

Wait! Dixie paper is just an example!

The form of presenting, in my view, is better than other media because of how informative it is. Hearing the presenter talk about the song, made me understand exactly what the song is to different people. It is a novel, and unique style of reporting that is quite uncommon.
