Eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia and their relationship in adolescents

Introduction

Eating disorders are increasingly frequent in young people who think about the ideal weight. Social networks show users’ lives in a "perfect" way. Little by little, people who make ‘influencers’ create a comparison model about the rest of the people;Among them, their weight.

Not only that, seeing people in their environment being thinner, create in the individual the need to be equal to the ideal weight to get attention like the rest.

Thinking obsessively about perfection leads to these diseases that are, among eating disorders, the most popular: bulimia and anorexia;which have different concepts. ‘‘ This mental illness can bring serious physical consequences, such as stomach bleeding, loss of dental enamel, damage to the esophagus, fainting, hair loss, mouth injuries, alterations in menstruation and damage to the heart and kidneys. It is estimated that 5% of those who suffer from it even die..’’ (Andrea Aguilar, 2013)

While anorexia has the dread of eating, which leads to practically not doing it, and that is why you have very low body weight (Anonymous, 2019). The most important characteristic is that the individual continues to see ‘fat’, despite being in a critical condition of minor weight.

Despite being different consequences and causes, they have something in common that is worrying not only doctors and nutritionists, but to parents and people in the environment: the increase in these diseases in adolescents.

Wait! Eating Disorders, Anorexia And Bulimia And Their Relationship In Adolescents paper is just an example!

Teenagers’ mind is prone to falling very easy criticism and bad thoughts. Above all, with social networks, which are the basis that individuals do not feel satisfied with their bodies and look for a model by which to follow their ideal silhouette. They want it in an atrocious way, looking for the easiest way: do not eat, or eat and vomit.

The problem is the way in which young people let themselves be influenced and with this they let these diseases into their lives that become more and more constant and in which they do not find another way to ‘lose weight’ ¬ – and not takein account the fact that they must also be healthy – and risk their adolescence; And little by little, affect your life totally.

Developing

Anorexia and bulimia, one of the most changing diseases in our metabolism at the alarming level, putting our physical and mental health at risk. These diseases of eating disorders are silent and little by little we consume our way of seeing oursFrom us about our physique. Therefore, adolescents are the most affected to these types of situations. In an article, Janin (1994) mentions that ‘’ The physical changes that result from that period cause alterations in behavior, in the establishment of interests and motivations, in social relationships and in quality of affective life ’’ ’’ ’’. These alterations make a teenager’s mind more complicated, that their social relationships are affected by their interest changes in wanting to change the image.

Is more present in women. According to Harris Marta (2004) ‘’ around adolescent women, from 1% to 3% suffer from bulimia and 1% of anorexia. Only 5% of all people with anorexia are men ‘’. His obsession with being thinner or resembling the models on the communication platforms grows for each positive comment that he sees in the models, and negative that come from around him until he becomes personal, and criticizing themselves. However, it cannot always be like that. These diseases can be initiated not only by the problem of focusing as a model in another person, if it could not be due as living with a family that governs the aesthetic, physical and in which ‘’ should be thin ’’ ’’ ’’ ’

As a consequence— and lesson— not all those that begin with these activities end with their ‘’ desired results ’’ ’. According to an article by the Red Cross of Spain (without date), it mentions that ‘’ Some of the risk factors in the appearance of eating disorders are linked to the person’s previous personality.’The perfectionist and wanting to reach a point of thinness, leads them to carry out extreme activities such as‘ ’gymnastics, ballet, etc.’Therefore, the obsession of these sports begins and the reasons for these diseases grow. They obtain symptoms from poor diet, excess physical effort, to social isolation of people around them, healthy activities that used to be done and that were unharmed. It also affects your way of looking. They find feelings of frustration, guilt and anger for 1.) not to achieve your goal at a certain time they would like, or 2.) The isolation of his close ones had become accustomed that, when he moves away, he loses the sense of being herself.

However, all this could be treated early. There are treatments that help the adolescent to refrain from this type of disease: medical help such as nutritionists and psychologists;and social aid such as family’s family or friends to help the individual to love and love himself. As a psychological help, Calmiña Saldaña (2001), he mentions that: ‘’ The objectives of psychological treatments should be to help patients to: 1) understand and cooperate with their physical and psychological rehabilitation;2) Understand and change dysfunctional behaviors and attitudes related to their eating disorder ’’. The objective is to be able to eliminate the disease from the person’s mind, but first try to make him understand that he is not alone, that the ideal body is really an idea created by the media mostly as advertising to the “ ideal body ” thatIt is totally non -existent.

conclusion

Eating disorders are a reality mostly for adolescents women looking for the perfect body by comparing social networks. As a consequence of wanting quick results due to social pressure, they look for the easiest way to do so that are really worrying to the health of the person.

With this type of ‘’ solutions ’’ he will never be completely satisfied with his body, he will always look for another way of idealizing, thus becoming a cycle of disaster in life itself.

The best thing we can do is love ourselves, and if weight loss is required, that is for health reasons and through healthy diet and exercises.
