The world is always under transformation due to factors such globalization and the internet hence allowing people from all over to interact through written or spoken English. People have different views regarding how the English language should be handled hence the need to embrace Descriptivism or Prescriptivism depending on the principles governing communication in the ever evolving universe. A Descriptivist will aim at explaining the construction of sentences from words without having to look at the laws governing the English language. Therefore, Descriptivist’s opinions favor globalization since they do not condemn choice of words rather focuses on conveying the message. Descriptivist’s view further allow nations that use English as a second language to determine what words to use without tampering with the intended message. Prescriptivists, on the other hand, have set out guidelines defining how words should be written or pronounced as dictated by tradition. The main difference that exists between the Prescriptivism and Descriptivism is the objectives since the former define how words should be written and pronounced while the latter say that words should not follow a defined line of writing or pronunciation (Huddleston & Pullum, 2002). Does the choice of language have any impact on globalization?
People have diverse views regarding speaking and writing the English language mostly when it comes to social status. The upper class will have differentiated views from the lower social class when it comes to principles guiding written or spoken English despite the fact that they all intend to pass the same message (Acocella, 2012).

Wait! English language paper is just an example!

Therefore a battle ensues on whether to follow the rules governing pronouncing and writing the English language. There are moral aspects that need to be followed when it comes to the choice of language. Descriptivism favors globalization in the aspect that people can use the English language without having to observe the governing principles. There should be a limit to the choice of words; people have different views regarding morality attached to the choice of words. For example, a person can write can’t but it would sound immoral to pronounce the word since it would sound like an insult to the listener. Descriptivism favors globalization to a large extent, but Prescriptivism should be placed into consideration when it comes to observing morality during communication. Our choice of words, whether written or spoken will have varied moral impacts across the globe, therefore, demanding people to adhere to language principles when it comes to twisted words that could have moral implication on the listeners.
The world is under constant transformation hence making languages evolve in the same process. Groups can use Descriptivism when it comes to finding an identity. Groups can write or pronounce words as they wish when it comes to developing secret codes. Following all principles regarding the English language would jeopardize the security of most nations since there would be no secret language. Code names and code words are efficient when it comes to keeping national secrets since the selected few will understand the communicated message. Prescriptivism coupled with globalization could have an impact on security since crucial information might get into the wrong people hence disrupting peace. With regards to national security, individuals or groups should be allowed to have an identity by breaking some principles regarding spoken and written English.
Formal communication should observe objectivity hence the need to follow Prescriptivism. Rules and regulations guarding the spoken and written English should be observed when on official duty to ensure that the wrong message is not conveyed. Prescriptivism perceives morality in written or spoken language hence it should be used for formal occasions. Descriptivism may fail to observe morality hence offend the target audience resulting in negative feedback in the communication process. The kind of relationship between the target audience and communicator is a prime factor that has to be put into consideration when using Descriptivist’s views in informal communication settings. Therefore, the choice of language will depend on the target group and intention of communication. Both Descriptivism and Prescriptivism views need to be coupled depending on the intent of communication.
In conclusion, Descriptivism and Prescriptivism views play a crucial role in contributing to globalization. The rules and regulations guarding language need to be applied with a consideration of the target group, type of relationship and moral views. Globalization depends on communication and therefore the need to implement both Descriptivism and Prescriptivism views when selecting words. When no rules and regulations are observed in the writing and pronunciation of words, morality will not be observed. Descriptivism favors secrecy in communication hence can be used in the interest national security hence acting as a catalyst in the process of globalization. Prescriptivism advocates for morality hence should be utilized in formal communication. Therefore, there should be no specific way of communication, but Descriptivism or Prescriptivism need to be applied depending on the circumstances surrounding communication. Therefore guidelines regarding language will be followed or broken depending on the purpose of communication and target audience.
