‘Foreigners in their own land’ is a documentary focusing on the largest minority group in the United States, the Latinos (PBS). In about an hour, the video shows the life of Latino Americans, their culture, politics in relation to the history of America from 1565 to 1880. Often, the material one finds on America’s history neglect all mention of the part of minorities in creating it (PBS). Needless to say, the minority groups possess a rich culture that has also shaped how America is today.
The video uses individual’s accounts of the experiences they had during various phases such as immigration, their traditions, suffering as well as joyous times. Most of the people trading their stories originated from South and Central American countries (PBS). The video is very elaborate and equally exhaustive. The speakers engaged are of diverse interests, in politics, research, culture, and corporates (PBS).
Culturally, the Latino American traditions have significantly influenced music production, the creation of films and penetrated the political arena as well. It has provided unique opportunities for Latino Americans to serve in the highest offices in the land. It is, however, tricky to cover the history of more than five decades in such a short span of time. It is insightful but clamors so much information all at once.
It is surprising to learn that Latino American history dates back about fifty decades (PBS). To be more intricate, the video incorporates experiences of different ethnic groups such as Mexicans and Americans from Puerto Ricco independently (PBS).
