Abstract
Numerous concerns characterize the clinical practice but several tools can be used by practitioners to address these problems. Some of these tools include quality improvement (QI), research, and evidence-based practice (EBP). Healthcare personnel should know the appropriate moment to apply each tool because each is unique and is characterized with unique strengths and weaknesses. The tools are also differentiated hence it is necessary for healthcare personnel to know the best tool to use when addressing a clinical problem. The focus of this paper is to show the differences between EBP and research. Additionally, the paper will aim to show how to identify an EBP project. The main difference between the two is the nature of evidence. The research aims at bringing new evidence regarding a clinical challenge whereas evidence-based practice uses existing evidence to solve a clinical issue. An EBP project can be identified by having a defined problem or using a model to solve a clinical problem.

Differences between evidence-based practice and research
Evidence-based practice denotes a clinical practice that makes use of a problem-solving approach by integrating systematic search to provide answers to burning clinical questions. On the other hand, research denotes a systematic inquiry that applies defined methods to solve challenges or answer questions.

Another difference is that evidence-based practice depends on information from numerous sources such as research, patient data, and clinical expertise to solve a problem whereas research aims at bringing new knowledge regarding a clinical issue. Therefore, this indicates that EBP uses existing knowledge whereas study aims at bringing new expertise regarding a phenomenon. The third difference is that research is theory-based while evidence-based practice is based on the evaluation of evidence. That is, research aims at testing theories whereas EBP focuses on evaluating existing evidence regarding a clinical concern. The fourth difference is the purpose; research aims to test hypotheses whereas EBP aims to transform research into practice (Dimitroff, 2011).
How to identify an evidence-based intervention project
The first way of defining an evidenced-based project is looking at the problem. A unique problem characterizes EBP projects. The second way of determining an EBP project is by the presence of a model (Cepero, 2011). EBP projects use models to foster problem-solving and improving the quality of care according to patients. Further, an EBP project uses existing evidence or information to solve the defined problem. This is to imply that EBP projects do not focus on bringing new knowledge but rather testing the validity of the existing evidence regarding a nursing concern. Lastly, an EBP project will be identified in how existing evidence regarding a clinical matter is turned into practice.
