Exam Certification and Scope of Practice
The self-governing non-profit National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN,) is the organization through which boards of nursing regulate mutual concerns regarding the public safety, healthy, and the development of the licensure exams. The two main boards that work in conjunction with this examination organization are the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Both the AANP and ANCC boards govern the administration of certification exams to nurses aspiring to become nurse practitioners (BoardVitals, 2018). Within these boards are various areas of specialty including Adult-Gerontology and Family practice with exams administered as either acute or primary care. The ANCC provides basis for Advanced Practice including advanced, professional, and independent practice. The AANP, on the other hand, provides for assessment which includes both objective and subjective information regarding the patient (BoardVitals, 2018). Generally, the two boards differ in that unlike AANP, ANCC comprises of more questions focused more on professional matters including ethics and healthcare policy. Thus, ANCC is the exam I plan to take since it has in-depth content regarding my profession alongside patient care and safety. To pass my exams, I will master both clinical and class material and select a vastly examined question set to back my study materials.

New Nurse Practitioners face both professional and clinical issues which they need to consider and address. From certification exams to licensure, these nurses ought to brace themselves to accomplish and successfully embrace their new role in becoming novice practitioners (Twine, 2018). The scope of practice of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner involves the care for critically and chronically ill patients who are physiologically unstable (Poghosyan, Norful, & Martsolf, 2017). Family Care Nurse Practitioner, on the other hand, provides independent, comprehensive, long term and continuous care for patients throughout their lifespan. By contrast, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), focus solely on the adults through the provision of comprehensive care and management of common ailments (ANCC, 2015). While 22 states in the U.S. have granted NP full practice authority, others including New York and Ohio still require them to enter into collaborative agreement with the physicians (Nurse Journal, n.d). The two settings in which a FNP can work at include community based organizations and schools whereas a GPNCP can work at adult medical care areas such as oncology and diabetes care settings.
