Sociology, as the name implies, involves the study of the human society while geography, on the other hand, deals with the study of land and features found on the earth surface. Geography can be classified into physical and cultural geography. Cultural geography is highly related to sociology as it emphasizes how humans live and their culture. Since ancient times geography has had an immense impact on the society and this can be seen in various situations. The climate which is an aspect of geography helps to explain the kind of clothes people wear. The environment also influences a nutritional diet as people will eat what they are comfortable with depending on the weather (Rolon n.p). For example, one will prefer taking a cold beverage during a warm sunny climate.
Before sociology can take an in-depth look at how societies work, it takes a glance at geography as it enables us to understand how the solar system and the environment affects human life. Climate helps to explain people’s physical conditions and how their bodies are built. For example, those residing in the mountains tend to develop stronger and bigger calves and get less tired when running and walking as compared to average people. They come about as a result of constant walking up and down the mountain, and deprivation of oxygen at the mountain tops. Both geography and sociology are interrelated in many ways; the land shapes how the people leave while the people, in turn, shape how the area looks like.
