Fairfax board education adds gender identity transgender to school curriculum
Fairfax board education was the first school to embrace the issue of ending discrimination on sexual orientation immediate the United States Supreme Court allowed homosexuals marriage in the entire 50 States. The managing board of this school voted to adjust the school curriculum in that it incorporated issues of sexuality and the social aspect of it. Under the new curriculum, the school will introduce the topic to young students at ninth grade whereby they will gain light concepts regarding ways of making proper health decision, diseases caused by sexual intercourse and the entire human reproduction. At tenth grade, students will be subjected to learning growth and development in relation to adolescent and its resulting characteristics. Additionally, they will be introduced to sexual orientation that will incorporate the definition of the complex term such as homosexual, transgender, heterosexual and bisexual (Washington post, 1).
Consequently, the main point that Fairfax board education is trying to do is to advocate the message that people should not discriminate other people on sexual orientation profiling. However, this idea adopted by Fairfax board education will influence young children both negatively and positively. In my opinion, sex education should not be introduced to young students because their ability to evaluate the main agenda of that unit is questioned.

Even though it has, it`s own advantages.
Contrary, the advantage of teaching sexuality to young people is that it will help reduce discrimination. This is because students are natured into accepting people with different sexual orientation. So far, people were encouraged to believe that homosexuality is bad, and they grew up knowing that. Therefore, when kids are educated to know that different sexual orientation is normal and appropriate, they will grow up knowing that since it is a conditional reflex mechanism (Gudridge &Beatrice, 23). Secondly, sex education introduced to young children will reduce the rate of sexual infection and adolescent pregnancy. This is because students have the privilege of gaining knowledge that will assist them to evaluate their values, moral and be able to handle a relationship without being sexually active. It gives them a clue on how to limit and control their sexual desire to focusing on the effect of sexual intercourse. Additionally, sex education assists the students to be responsible and careful through abstaining, using protections and being sexually healthy.
More ever, diverse sexual orientation is a common phenomenon. Therefore, it is not surprising that some of these students may grow up to be homosexuals. It is the responsibility of the school to assist such students to be tolerant through coming to terms with their sexual orientation (Gudridge &Beatrice, 23). Sex education will end bullying in school especially bullying that is motivated by sexual orientation. Therefore, learning about sexual identities at an early stage of life will reduce the rate of discriminations in the future. Lastly, sex is always linked to other social immorality such as drug abuse, crime and death. In short, students are told sex is bad but in reality it is a common aspect of life. Sex education will help elaborate why sex is not appropriate at a young age but accepted at adulthood.
On the other hand, the disadvantages of introducing sex education to young students are also genuine in this case. For instance, students who are thirteen-year-olds can not be able to grasp the main agenda of learning transgender, homosexual and heterosexual fully and they may end up doing the opposite of what the curriculum was meant to achieve (Kim LaCapria, 123). Sex education is dangerous because it encourages other sexual misconduct such as promoting excessive masturbation, the excess use contraception at early age and abortion. All these actions are fatal to the general reproductive health and can result in future health complications.
Additionally, many teachers fear to teach sex education because when students are found masturbation, using contraceptive or in abortion cases they will always say the teacher told them it was acceptable. A parent always releases their anger on teacher blaming them for their children mistake. Therefore, it is such cases that discourage teachers from teaching sex education. This is because their career as a professional teacher is at threat. Lastly, sex education is not essential for young kids. This is because the teacher in charge of teaching will be cautious not to explain into detail about sexual intercourse. However, kids are always curious they would wish to know how babies are found and once they know they will try to make their baby in the perception that they will play with it as a toy (Magoon, 93). In addition to that, the act of the teacher limiting information on the sexual subject is very dangerous because the neglected information might be very significant it terms revealing the negative impact. Therefore, kids will engage in masturbation, sexual intercourse, or excessive use of contraceptives without knowing the impacts of their action.
With reference to that, Fairfax board education to incorporate gender identity in their curriculum should be thoroughly reviewed before it causes any harm to the society. Simultaneously, the advantage of teaching young student sex education are very positive, and other schools should consider adopting this strategy.
