Final Art Evaluation
My artwork is titled Tomorrow is Today. The theme of the same piece of artwork is personal emancipation. During the process of developing my artwork, I drew on my feelings, memories and thoughts as a source of inspiration. It might have been difficult, but I had a lot to work with throughout the entire process. It gave me a chance to revisit the past and have a better understanding of my feelings and emotions that would help me in making the art. Throughout the entire process of creating my artwork, I have developed an acute sense of self-awareness and have gained a deeper insight into who I am. Revisiting the past also gave me a chance to understand how prior experiences and past situations helped shape me into what I am today.
Techniques
I conducted research on various methods to learn which was the most convenient and easily manageable for me. After digging thoroughly through vast amounts of data on the internet, I settled on crosshatching and pointillism. I used crosshatching for the face, as it was not too complicated to execute. The crosshatching effect was done by using a small amount of acrylic paint, which was orange in color. The crosshatching was also done in a light yet perpendicular manner that moved from the ear to chin with the desire to achieve a 3-D effect.
Next, I used the pointillism technique to dot patterns from an eye-catching background to create a sense of depth and distance. I settled on three colors that were black, white and a mixture of the two, gray.

They were complimentary colors and would also contrast in spectacular fashion. However, the desired visual effect would only be seen by a person as they moved their eye from side to side. This movement would ultimately establish visual vibration and help the viewer see the image, as I wanted it to be seen. However, there is also the chance that those viewing the image may not focus on what I intended to be focused on. The function of the dotting patterns is twofold. First, it forms the element of fantasy with enigmatic symbols over the background. Second, the models amplify the meaning of the work.
Composition
I strived to achieve a proper compositional balance with the artwork. On the one hand, I made my dark side and light side to be symmetrical and to have equal value. On the left, a Chinese symbol translates to “sealed” with chains on it. On the right, there is a giant shield and a small batwing, which balances both sides in weight and sight.
Use of colors
Upon further research, I found that different colors mean different things and also evoke different emotions. For instance, the color blue shows coolness and is indicative of how my past life has subsided in recent times. Red, on the other hand, demonstrates aggressiveness, energy and a desire to keep moving forward. It is symbolic of how my life currently is. To present artwork that was properly contrasted, I used the two colors to represent my dark and light sides. Away from that, I also employed the use of light glow paint to create a fantasy effect that would light up in the dark. I then set out to find a different effect for different feelings. The results of the glow were that the left side of me faded away when exposed to darkness while the right side glowed under the smallest source of light. It was indicative of how my life had changed and how I was done with my past. It had faded away into the darkness to give way to a new me.

Use of Symbols.
I used various symbols in the artwork to signify what I want to achieve. The symbols included a shield, the eye of the soul, a symbol that translated to sealed and an arm of a hurricane (Galow, 2016). Some of them were complex, but they all made sense in their way. I tried my best only to use symbols that made sense and avoided those that seemed meaningless or unnecessary to prevent overwhelming art viewers. Fortunately or unfortunately, my painting was abstract and different people would interpret it how they so wished. I thus had to associate different symbols with a variety of meanings.
Materials and ToolsI combined different materials and methods to come up with different textures and surfaces. I made the painting touchable so that anyone who wished could touch it and feel it texture. The materials I used included plastic, a real chain, handmade metal debris, light glow paint and opal dust. A combination of the mixture was intended to create a 3-D effect. It worked perfectly, and the painting was perfect.
Conclusion
I learned several valuable lessons during the process of creating my artwork. One of the most crucial lessons was that the sky is the limit and that progress can never be stopped. I should keep improving my skills and move forward. I also discovered that creating an abstract painting is more enjoyable than I thought. The entire process gave me the chance to revisit my past as well as know how I want my future to be. I also learned that transformation is a never-ending process.
