Immigrants in the New Mexico
The Unites States has been a dream country for a lot of people. Every year, millions of people seek to immigrate in different states of the United States such as California, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, etc. The reasons are many; some good and some bad. People come here looking for opportunities to make better lives for themselves and their families. In fact foreigners wish to immigrate in America for the same reason which was the reason for establishing this republic by the Founding Fathers established, and i.e. ‘they want lives of liberty and happiness. However, illegal immigration has become a huge problem for the country and many states.
PURPOSE
The aim of this paper is to discuss about the foreigners, particularly Mexicans and illegal immigrants coming into New Mexico.
INTRODUCTION
Immigration is a process of moving into a country with the intention to stay there or make a fixed living. Speaking morally, a person should immigrate if he sensibly judges that immigrating to America or any state would make his life better. But, there are certain things which cannot be overlooked such as the already fragile economy and the largely growing rate of unemployment rate. In such case, hundreds of immigrants put a lot of pressure on the actual citizens of the state. Thereby, which the country has made strict laws and rules for immigration and that causes hundreds of thousands of immigrants entering the country illegally (Anzovin 49).

New Mexico is minority-majority state in the United States, where half of the population is represented by non-Hispanic whites. This state being a border state has a long history of mixed cultures, languages, and population, which began during the 1600s with the settlement of Spanish immigrants.
NEW MEXICO AND FOREIGN IMMIGRATION
A large immigrant population is attracted towards New Mexico, particularly Mexicans as once New Mexico was a part of Mexico and still shares its border; however in 1912 it became an individual state. Out of every ten residents one individual is found to be a foreigner in this state, and over the past decade more than 40 percent increase has been noticed in their numbers. In New Mexico policy of immigration has become a major issue of political debate due to the increasing population of immigrants. Neighboring states like Arizona has strict immigration enforcement law called Arizona S.B.1070, but nothing such is followed in New Mexico. Rather, it is among the first few states that passed a state DREAM Act in the year 2010, under which undocumented immigrants are granted certain state benefits (Chomsky 36).
THE POSITIVE SIDE OF IMMIGRATION
Like a coin has two sides, there are pros and cons of the entry of immigrants into the state, whether they are entering legally or illegally. So looking at the brighter side, it is important to mention that millions of dollars and thousands of jobs all across New Mexico will be generated just by bringing reformation in the immigration laws. Regional Economic Models, Inc. (REMI) states that by 2020 more than 2,700 jobs and more than $203 million will be generated in New Mexico by the undocumented immigrants who would enroll for legal citizenship. According to a report in 2014 more than $109 million was added into Gross State Product by passing a law for citizenship and expanding the high-skilled visa program.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND THE PROBLEMS
Illegal immigration comes with many troubles as well; it affects several aspects of life of the people in New Mexico as well as the United States. Right from the workforce and the classroom to communities across the country, everyone and everywhere is affected. According to report, in 2012, there were 11.2 million illegal immigrants in the United States. In this statics, Mexicans alone make up about 52% of the unauthorized immigrants, however it must be noticed that in recent years their numbers have been declining (West 11).
Along with problem of growing population of illegal immigrants in New Mexico, it also faces the growing fiscal burden on its legal residents. This fiscal burden is due to the States policy of services and benefits provided to illegal immigrants and their families. Recently a report states that more than $717 million in annual fiscal costs will be bear by the state’s taxpayers due to the benefits and services such as issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants (Lee 51).
SUMMARY
The following points are drawn out after summarizing this paper:

More than $717 million in annual fiscal costs will be borne by the state’s taxpayers due to the benefits and services provided to these immigrants.
CONCLUSION
The forefathers of America had a vision and they accepted everyone with an open arm and a warm heart, they believed America is open to all be it the wealthy and respectable stranger, or the broken and mistreated by all Nations And religions. New Mexico also certainly believes this ideology and allows foreign immigration, which possibly can be due to the economical benefits; however any state must safeguard its people first and look after their rights and prosperity. Illegal immigration of Mexicans or people from any country will bring trouble and the state must follow strict rules and abide by them for the good of their state and citizens.
