Gun Ownership in the US
Gun ownership is a critical issue in the United States society. An intense discussion surrounds this issue in the US, mainly due to the significant cases of gun violence, terrorism, and mass shootings in various parts of the country. Gun ownership is fundamental as there are individuals for or against gun ownership rights. The supporters illustrate the right for self-defense as indicated in the US Constitution. The lobby organization that supports the right to gun ownership for all mature citizens is the National Rifle Association (NRA). This organization enhances the interests of the gun manufacturers, gun traders, and the gun owners, who are members of the organization (Garza, 2018).
NRA has effective strategies and methods that aim at winning the support of the American Congress and the President of the United States. One approach that is effective for enhancing gun-ownership rights is political ideologies. The movement supports the political candidate who advocates for the right to gun ownership. The organization has millions of members across the United States (Garza, 2018). In presidential elections, the organization is effective in mobilizing its members to support a political party or candidate. The Republican Party and President Donald Trump are beneficiaries of the political influence of NRA due to their open support for gun ownership (Garza, 2018). Another strategy is in legislation. In the US Congress, the NRA has significant influence in the development of lax gun laws.

During campaigns, the NRA funds and supports the campaign of candidates who are for the gun-ownership agenda in Congress.
The lobby organization uses the emotional appeal method to win the support of political leaders. It argues that all individuals have the right to self-defense when their lives are in danger (Beckett, 2018). For example, parents have the right to protect their children when intruders gain entry into their homes. Also, a female victim has the right to defend herself against rapists. Therefore, from the NRA’s perspective, gun-ownership enhances self-defense.
