3. The relevance of the topic: Communication skills forms a major part of our lives and majorly dictates our personality and how people view you. People perceive what type of a person you are by how you present yourself to them.
4. Establish credibility: I became interested in learning about good communication skills after numerous accounts of my friends missing significant opportunities or being mistaken for other people simply because of the way they presented themselves to people (Ellis, 2002). For these, I searched the internet for materials that would help me and my friends develop good image before others.
5. Preview of crucial points: Communication entails more than just exchanging word by mouth with another, it involves the first processes of one’s appearance and also understanding the primary motive behind any communication you having. Today will take you through barriers to excellent interpersonal communication with people and necessary skills to improve communication (Ellis, 2002).

I. Barriers to good communications with people are what I will start with so as to make us aware of our mistakes and then mend them later.
A. The first barrier is lack of focus
1. For the efficient passing of message, one must entirely put all his mind the other person and avoid multitasking like texting or daydreaming.
2. Lack of focus makes you lose some core nonverbal cues like facial expressions that will make you interpret the message more critically.
B. The second barrier is the use of confusing body language.
1. Body language reinforces what we talk or hear as a reaction.
2. When replying to an “NO” answer, especially if it is strict, one should not smile or grin to scare away the other person, we should know instances when to use various body language.

II. We move on to the tips for improving communication with people, hoping after this we all won’t be the same.
A. Pay attention to all the nonverbal cues of both you and the person you are talking to.
1. The way a person stands, their facial expressions and even eye contact make a lot in contributing for good communication (Ellis, 2002).
2. One needs to learn how to effectively read this from the person they talking to or even how they make this body language.
3. Improving one’s ability of how to learn body language can be enhanced by being aware of individual differences and even using nonverbal cues that match up with your words.
B. Suppressing one’s stress from getting into the way of the current communication.
1. Being able to control your emotions during communication is crucial especially if it is an argument.
2. One of the ways to match this up is by remaining calm under pressure
3. It is possible through stalling and pausing to think for a while before replying to any heated argument.
4. Enunciating your words clearly and audible.
(Transition: Bearing all these points in mind you are sure of not being mistaken or getting negative image from people during communication.)
III. CONCLUSION
I. Review: This speech was to help us become better in our daily communication. For a good communication, all the parties must be aware of their contribution to the topic of discussion and most importantly be clear and audible when they talk if it is a face to face communication. We should know all these barriers to effective communication such as lack of focus and give out confusing body language. With theses, we must always strive to counteract them.
II. The clincher: We must all strive to ensure whatever the message we are sending is exactly what is being received on the other end. Always endeavor to be a skilled communicator.
