American Revolution
American Revolution refers to a conflict that took place between the early American settlers and the British colonial administration between the years 1765 and 1783. The conflict and rejection of oppressive British rule led to the independence and the establishment of the United States of America. Among the factors that led to the war included inequality in the freedoms and rights accorded to different people based on race or gender (18Th Century Context). One of the approaches in which the ideal of the American-revolution differs from the contemporary United States society is in the reception of the African Americans’ and women in the society. In the early days before the American Revolution, African-Americans’ were mostly sold as slaves and lacked any freedoms or rights. The group that was mainly composed of Indian settlers, women and colored individuals were regarded as the minority and underprivileged group in the society.
The weak and poor perception of some group of people in the society were among the factors that facilitated the American Revolution as people fought for a change in their status in the American society (18Th Century Context). The main idea of the revolution was to reject the oppressive Britain rule and some colonial practices such as unfair taxation. However, the revolution also enlightened and facilitated the end of some earlier practices such as slavery and the perception of women as being inferior in the society.

The need and fight for freedom and self-rule hence led to the development of democracy and people’s rights in America. Therefore, despite contributing to contemporary American society, most of the American Revolution ideals have numerous discrepancies to the reality of life in the United States.
