The infection control and training program I will implement in the health care facility have four components. These are the infection control measures, occupational health, healthcare personnel training and patient education. The program is meant to reduce the risk of spread of infectious diseases in the healthcare setting. The program also outlines the groups and individuals involved and their responsibilities. Also included are the impact of the program and performance monitoring and feedback.
The infection control practices are divided into two parts. The first is the standard precautions which are taken with the assumption that body fluids from everyone in the healthcare facility are potential infection sources. They are; hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, environmental cleaning, patient care equipment safety, proper waste management and respiratory hygiene. The second component is the transmission based precautions. These are additional precautions, tailored to the specific modes of transmission and are taken when a patient has a known infectious condition. They include airborne, droplet and contact precautions (World Health Organization, 2004).
Occupational health is meant to protect the healthcare workers from the acquisition of infections. This includes steps such as immunization and allowing sick leaves. Regular healthcare personnel training is done to ensure the personnel remains competent (Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee, 2012).

To aid in infection prevention and control, patient and family education is also part of the program (HICPAC, 2017).
Efforts have been made to ensure that this program is in line with state and federal standards regarding infections control such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration and CDC’s standards (“CDC Guidelines on Infection Control,” 1982), (Sands, 2000). The expected impact of this program is that it will prevent the spread of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) and consequently reduce the cost of treatment.
