This is because this kind of success translates to a better performance of the company activities in the foreign countries.
For an expatriate to be successful, he or she ought to possess some primary characteristics that advance his or her activities in the foreign countries. Such qualities include but are not limited to, excellent communication skills; this includes the ability to learn and speak the foreign language in the foreign country fluently. Secondly, the individual ought to be highly sensitive to cultural differences, in that, he or she can adapt to the cultural processes and practices in that particular country. In addition to this, the expatriate needs to be highly flexible so as to succeed in his or her responsibilities. Great tolerance to ambiguity is yet another aspect that a successful expatriate needs to have in his or her career. Moreover, as a way of succeeding in the overseas nations as an expatriate an individual needs to be enthusiastic regarding learning and understanding the culture of the people in the foreign country. Also, it is of great importance for an expatriate to have a desire and motivation to succeed (Gaspar et al., 14).
In conclusion, it is reasonably important to note that the best method of acquiring excellent skills as an expatriate is through learning. From a personal perspective, I possess most of these qualities which include, flexibility, good communication skills, cultural flexibility and desire to succeed in this career.
