Part 1
The evidence-based intervention chosen for this assignment is the all-encompassing services from the CMSS (Chaldean Middle Eastern Social Services). This site provides comprehensive wraparound services that include much more than just the mental health services. They assist with education, social services along with health services. CMSS implements a socialized community where immigrants can feel safe to interact with other refugees in a social environment. The facility’s health program provides a complete assessment on torture symptom screening that builds on the assessments for treating torture and PTSD.
Part 2
CMSS complies with San Diego County’s Behavioral Health services Competency Plan. This plan ensures that assistance is culture specific. Immigrants with a Torture or PTSD diagnosis include regular meetings with a therapist and medication if necessary, prescribed by an in-house psychologist. The agency validates the success by analyzing the behavior through a detailed assessment before and after the intervention. At CMSS, they cover every facet of the immigrant’s health. This holistic therapy process provides a healing community where the immigrants and their families can find encouragement on the road to self-determination and therefore control over their lives. They work with clients in all phases of their life to assist in the process of adjustment.

Part 3
Of all the literature referenced the one by Herman that this path to health involves the steps to recovery, reconstruction, and reconnection. This seems to be a holistic approach. The findings are relevant to populations struggling with the trauma that includes torture. These therapies assist clients in the contextualization of the difficulties and traumatic events in order to take back what was taken from them. Van der Veer also suggests that empowering the conception of self-determination of refugee immigrants constitutes a major slice of the rehabilitation process. The author also states it is critical that the practitioners focus on the multicultural aspect, but incorporate human justice and liberation to enable refugees to reconstruct their identity and apply it to those around them. The literature suggests that PTSD and torture trauma affect the whole body and not just the mental health.
Summary
This program at CMSS is working. The process of working every aspect of a client’s life appears to be beneficial to those who choose to enter the program. This facility addresses the cultural diversity of the clients by providing translation and interpretation services and free legal services, along with physical and mental health services. This process works if the client responds to this treatment and feels an improvement in all areas of their life. The goal is to build trust while assisting in the process of wellness. The effectiveness of the intervention is measured through an established behavior system that monitors the clients long-term. Only qualified and licensed therapists and psychologists perform these interventions. As always, interventions are subjective. There are many testimonials on the CMSS website and that of its sister site, Heal Torture.org, showing that this intervention works. Of course, therapy is not a one size fits all in mental health services but CMSS shows some success stories, where treating the whole person is successful if even one refugee returns to health and self-determination and is part of the cultural diversity that should be an American right for refugees. After all, America is a land of immigrants, except for the American Indians that were already living here back in the 1600s.
