Brian A Courtney, the author of ‘Freedom from Choice’ decides to bypass the mannerism of labeling people according to their cultural backgrounds, unlike his friends and families. I understand his decision of not judging his friends for having stereotypes on people. This could most likely come from him having a biracial heritage which makes him understand more than one culture of a particular race very well and what they stand for. I agree with the statement from the article saying that it becomes tough not to label people (Courtney 182), mainly because the stereotype is something that has been passed from generation to generation, so children grow up with this belief from their parents and continue wit6h the vicious cycle of labeling people.
Denise’s reaction when the author hugs his female friend who is white is just a reflection of what happens in our society (Courtney 184). Most of the times, when people of two different races get into a romantic relationship [, it is always condemned at the beginning with friends and family, and most of the times, it normally ends because of how it makes people feel uncomfortable, but a few times, they do last. However, we are not precisely told if the author had feelings for his female friend or not.
The author describes his frustration about how he feels bad when his African American friends make negative statements about his white people. In my personal view, the main reason why the African American people seem to react that way is just them trying to be protective because of the hardships they went through in fighting for their independence from the whites in the past.

Even though nowadays in America people have equal rights and freedom, for the blacks, there are still wounds that may take a long while to heal.
The final statement from the author to biracial parents is well thought. I think it is an excellent strategy to heal the wounds and help to do away with stereotypes.
