Fetus’ Status and Woman’s Right to Abortion
Abortion remains one of the most hotly debated topics across disciplines. For example, the BBC (1) its ethics guide provides a set of conditions in which abortion can be ethically necessary. However, strong opponents of the move consider the fetus to be nothing other than human from the time of conception, hence the right to life. This essay argues against the fact that the fetus’ status can be used to give a women the right to go through an abortion.
Every human being has a right to live. According to the Center for Reproductive Rights (2) confirms that life begins right from the time of fertilization. As a result, the fetus is granted the rights to life. Irrespective of its status, provided it is alive, the woman should not be provided the rights to perform an abortion. This would directly infringe into the rights of the unborn child. In addition, it would also cause harm to the fetus’ mother.
The fetus’ condition should also not be used a basis to permit the women to perform an abortion because the mother’s life must also be taken to account. Given that both are likely to be victims of the procedure, the interest of the mother or the fetus cannot be prioritized. Both have to be considered important before making a decision to allow for an abortion to be carried out.
In conclusion, the status of the fetus should not be used a basis to permit a woman to carry out an abortion. Given that the fetus has rights; all the necessary procedures have to be considered before permitting pregnancy termination.

The woman’s condition should also be reviewed, given that the abortion poses immediate life-threatening dangers to the mother too. For these reasons, the fetus’ status should not be used as the basis of allowing for an abortion to take place.
