I learned that stress is a common phenomenon in every person’s life. Regardless of its causes, stress can be a serious threat to people’s health, prosperity, and personal relationships. However, development of the right skills and methods to cope with it can make it more manageable and less destructive. I gained the knowledge of how to identify factors which cause stress and anxiety as identification of the problem is the first and crucial step to fight against it. As an example of my everyday life, I believe I should refer to the way that school performance has sometimes been a major stressor in my life, leading to some health issues, like insomnia and hypertension. My problem lied in not knowing the ways to face my stressors as well as not being able to identify my problems as stress-induced. I have concluded that stress management is something that can be learned and make people more resilient and optimistic while going through challenging periods of their lives. Stress can easily disorient people and cause them not to see the forest for the trees, making them put strong emphasis on their likely mistakes and possible failures. That has been the case for me, as well. Now that I know the ways that stress affects my physical, mental and psychological wellness and the techniques to manage with these effects, I feel I am capable of never letting it take ahold of my life again. I learned that stress is not to be feared and not to be allowed to rule a person’s life. On the contrary, it is easy to deal with, provided that it is identified early and managed with the right strategies.
