1. Discipline of meditation
Meditation is reflecting, contemplating, thinking deeply, pondering on a given topic or subject. According to Donald S Whitney, meditation is an essential bridge in a Christian’s life as it enables a seamless transition from reading the word to prayer. Biblically, meditation is reflecting on the word day in day out and observing the teachings. Proverbs 4:20-22 the urges Christians to be attentive to the word of God, listen attentively to His sayings. Guard, observe and keep them in their hearts for they are precious to those who find them and healing to their flesh. In Philippians 4:8 Paul urges the brethren to meditate on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable and worthy of praise. Psalm 1:1 the scripture shows that blessed is the man who does not walk in the ways of the wicked, sinners, scoffers; but delights and meditates in the laws of the Lord. Therefore, meditation is an important principle in Christianity as makes the word practical in their lives.
2. Spiritual Discipline
Scriptural reading is vital to every believer for spiritual growth. In 1st Peter 2:2, the Bible likens the word as milk to a newborn baby which is crucial for their growth. It encourages Christians to yearn for the word of God as the newborn babies yearn for their mother’s milk for without the word Christians perish spiritually as the newborn dies without the Milk.
Reading of the word can either be public or privately; According to 1st Timothy 4:13, Christians should devote themselves to reading the scriptures publically and to understand the teachings.
