Mental Disorders
In the past, I viewed individuals as with schizophrenia as intellectually challenged. I never understood their behaviors as a mental disorder, and this was a wrong perception. Persons with schizophrenia seemed foolish in school, and the bullies often targeted them because they did not realize that the behaviors are caused by a mental disorder. Even the victims never admitted they had a medical issue and this complicated their experiences.
From the experiences highlighted in the video, I learned that many people suffer from schizophrenia without knowing. The LEAP Institute (2013) notes that it is worse for parents who have children with mental conditions. Patients perceptions adherence and preferences are a necessity for health care provider to address while discussing treatment options. Patients with schizophrenia should be involved in the decision-making process with the health professional team, though it might be challenging due to the inherent nature of psychosis, plus potential lack of insight. Nonetheless, many patients may feel out of place not being involved in treatment decisions, and impacts to poor recovery. According to the recent research, it has been concluded that shared decision making on treatment may have positive results on relapse prevention (Cacioppo, & Freberg, 2018).
In conclusion, it is important the public understand mental disorders to avoid the misconceptions. Parents, teachers, and the general population need to know the diverse symptoms of mental sicknesses so that they act appropriately.

This will also help the patients to understand their condition and seek medical help.
