From the information provided Mariano could be suffering from post –traumatic stress disorder (PSTD), this is a mental condition that results from a stressful experience that is beyond an individual’s defense mechanism causing the person to elicit great fear, loss of control or even feeling helpless. Mariano could be suffering from PSTD because of the rejection he received from his siblings (Simpson & Simpson, 2002, p. 23). Mariano’s mother tries to compensate for the failed abortion by ignoring the other children and her husband who in turn ignore and annoy Mariano. It is said that fetus has a way of reacting to stress, and this could have been evident when Mariano’s mother tried to abort him; this reaction as a fetus and the rejection could have contributed to him having PSTD. Some PSTD individuals experience strong feelings even without a pure reminiscence of what happened (Simpson & Simpson, 2002, p. 32). Mariano’s case of PSTD shows hyperarousal symptoms that explain his violence, outbursts and difficulty concentrating in class as depicted by his poor performance.
One of the sources Mariano should be referred to is Anthony Turner, who deals with children and adolescents from different background and also helps individuals with a low-income. The second resource is Amanda Vaske who deals with family issues especially those related to after birth, anger management and learning disabilities; she also deals with children and adolescents.

The third reference is the North Woods Christian Counselling because Mariano attends a Catholic school he is likely to get the best treatment and learn the importance of attending Mass. This counselling center deals with poor performance in academics, anger and outbursts and, therefore, Mariano is likely to benefit most. Mariano should try the cognitive behavioral therapy that will help him know and change his behavior and general reaction. Mariano will get to understand what thoughts make him elicit the PSTD symptoms and, therefore, learn how to control anger or any other feeling he has (“Treatment of PTSD – PTSD: National Center for PTSD,” n.d.).
