Life Changing News
Life is full of surprises. Many times that we so badly need things to happen-things out of the ordinary. Such things sometimes happen and sometimes fails to happen. The real surprise is when our wishes come true when we least expect them. Life has its own way of doing things. Sometime back my surprise was delivered to me and since then, my life has never been the same. I will never forget that day.
Since I was young I have always wished go overseas especially Europe or America for studies. I knew, however, that my dream will never come true since my family could not afford to pay my fees let alone the upkeep. My father did not have a good job and my mother did not have any-she was just a housewife. My father was struggling to make ends meet and sometimes he did double shifts to make extra money. We hardly had three meals a day.
After I completed my high school, I took a job at a local store. I needed to make money so that I could help my father put the food on the table. I also needed save money for my college education. One morning, I was at the store mopping the just before the opening hours when the owner of the store handed me a white envelope and said, “This came for you”. I took envelop wondering who might have sent me a letter. I thought that perhaps the government was writing to inform me that I was eligible for paying tax now that I was working. However, the thought was dismissed immediately I saw the stamp.

It indicated that the letter came from the United States. I was even curious since I had no friends or relatives in the U.S. I opened the envelope.
Inside the envelope was a letter from one of the leading colleges in the U.S. the letter indicated that I was among those chosen to study in the university for a period of five years, and I was awarded full scholarship. I did not believe it. I read the letter again word for word. It was real. I was so excited that jumped and shouted. I had even forgotten that I had applied for United States’ scholarship earlier that year. The news was exciting that I did not concentrate on work that day. It was a dream come true for me and I could not wait to tell my family of the great news.
From that moment I got the news, my life changed. I was given a chance to pursue a career of my choice in one of the leading colleges in the U.S. My perception of life changed and I now believe that everything is possible. I had never imagined that something that big could ever happen to me. Nevertheless, life is full of surprise and it has its own way of doing things.
