The bride comes to yellow stone
The author introduces the story by describing the different places through which the train passes beginning from its origins in San Antonio through the Texas trains and finally to its intended destination of Yellow stone. In recognizing that the “flatlands of Texas were pouring toward the east” (Crane, 1970). Stephen Crane recognizes the fleeting and changing nature of different regions. He instills an appreciation of the variety of changing landscapes and environments.
It is natural to feel anxious whenever you are faced with the task of furnishing friends or loved ones with robust news. This is the case with Crane’s protagonist Jack potter after what can be passed as eloping with a girl from San Antonio. As their journey by train progresses, the feeling of unease between the newlyweds is portrayed to be rising by the minute. “It was evident that, as the distance from Yellow Sky grew shorter, the husband became more nervous. His red hands were even more noticeable” (Crane, 1970).
Naturally, it is considered the norm to consult with family and friends when to making major decisions I life. The fact that Jack Potter neglected to inform anyone of his marriage prior to its occurrence could only result in a feeling of guilt. “They shared a sense of slight guilt that developed a finer tenderness.” (Crane, 1970). Just as was the case with Potter and his newly married bride, one would be in a dilemma as to the best way to break the news.

Crane perfectly paints human behavior especially regarding the use of alcohol I his character Scratchy Wilson. More often than not, in life, people who would otherwise be considered as being sociable and friendly tend to lose it once they begin drinking. Scratchy Wilson, in “the bride comes to yellow stone” is one such character who is portrayed as being capable of shooting anybody once he is drunk.
