Diversity in America’s Culture
Ethnocentrism involves the judging of another one’s culture solely using one’s own culture. And it is practical in America as a country. It is a country having the full diversity of cultures originating from all over the world. This is because of wanting to make life better for everyone. The entire human races have always been inventing things to make life easier. One of the greatest inventions was a knife which has been in use for many years. But still, inventions are coming to pass. Even though several inventions have been realized not from America but other countries they reach this country either intentionally and accidentally. They included glass, silk, cotton, and wool due to migration bringing with them things used in their culture like food example coffee and butter likewise the use of clocks and the mirror as their way of life. (DeVita, 2 – 3). This clearly shows that country was made and built founded by immigrants who capitalize on people who saw an opportunity in starting a new life with new land and different people from a variety of different places. This portrays a collaboration of the American people with immigrants’ culture in time confirming that America is a country of many cultures coming together to benefit from one another’s’ inventions and items in making life better. Its main idea was to clearly show that America is only as a result of collaborating with many people hence the incorporation of their cultures as one.

Even though America of today is more of ethnocentric to the point that they believe to be making the world better than it was before. Like making tight boundaries in social groups thus making social relationships among groups get slower. Conflicts and tension are created amongst the group in one way or another and finally limiting individuals of small social groups to which one belongs. Generally, when ethnocentrism escalates it slows down national development as emphasized in books on several social media platforms.
Besides, ethnocentrism in current America is irrational. But to some extent, a mild one will be in effect to ensure the variations and separations are then preserved and with time intensified. This is by encouraging group solidarity promoting cooperation becoming stronger. Also providing a sense of belonging among members especially the weak and hopeless. (DeVita, 8). It then promotes patriotism and nationalism for the members of the society. It’s only that peoples ignorance, extreme patriotic nationalist have poisoned and allowed manipulation to hate with endless wars.
