Literal meaning
The poem talks about the experience of a prostitute in a nightclub who sleeps with different strange men due to the loneliness.

Prostitution. The speaker talks about the men putting their hands around her waist, some asking her home and some buying her drinks.
Title
The title represents the two different worlds that the characters in the poem live in. Tone
Romantic tone, “stranger not to stay inside me once he enters me” depicts a sexual scene (Gonzalez 69).
Structure
An Irregular structure – some lines have one stanza while others have two and three. It is written in one complete paragraph.
Sound
Assonance – “wraps his arm…not to harm,” (Gonzalez 69).
Alliteration – “human hands” shows that “h” is repeated.
Rhythm
The rhythm is progressive. It starts in short sentences and the lengths increase as you continue reading.
Language
Erotic language. The speaker talks of threat from the blood of the stranger’s erection.

The persona is a prostitute, “one man requests me for a dance, another for a drink and another ask me home” (Gonzalez 69).
Imagery
There is a picture of the events happening around the speaker in the club, “The nightclub’s neon light glows red with anxiety as I wait on the turning lane” (Gonzalez 69).
