Parenting Styles
Student’s Name
Institutional Affiliation
I was raised by authoritative parents who were both demanding and responsive. My parents were strict especially on how I behave and conduct myself while at home and at school. I can recall that I used to feel that my parents were very demanding. I used to envy some of my colleagues because their parents were lenient with them. I cannot complain in the manner in which my parents raised me. I will live to praise them for raising me to become a responsible individual with a sense of direction. Although my parents were strict, their disciplinary approaches were supportive, and they used to insist they were doing all that for me. At first, I did not understand, but now I do.
As a modern-day parent, I would consider indulgent parenting, and I would specifically serve the role of a democratic parent. I would allow the kids to have a considerable level of self-regulation as discussed by Darling (1999). However, I will make sure that I am responsive to point out the dos and the don’ts. The world is ever evolving, and the parenting styles are gradually changing to suit the current work setting. Nowadays, parents spend more time at work rather than with their kids. The most prevalent parenting style exhibited by today’s parents is indulgent parenting (Darling, 1999). Although parents do not spend all their time with their kids, they get an opportunity to interact with them once in a while to teach them life survival skills and tactics.

Wait! parenting style paper is just an example!

Nowadays, more parents prefer enrolling their kids for child care so that they can have time to go to work and attend to other activities. In the long run, parents are slowly becoming alienated from their children and their influence on parenting is gradually dwindling (Darling, 1999). Every parent would like to raise their kids on their own, but this is not always the case. Enrolling a kid for child care is at times a factor of the work schedule and other activities that they may limit their child-rearing time and has nothing to do with the parenting style adopted.
If the parenting style exhibited by today’s parents is persistent, children and adolescents who were raised by lenient guardians will domineer the society. In the long run, they will mature to become adults with a high level of self-regulation because their parents were neither strict nor demanding (Darling, 1999). Expectant parents can always visit a developmental psychologist to be educated on the most appropriate parenting style for modern day guardians. This is important because the world needs parents who can raise and model their children to become responsible and committed individuals.
